EICMA 2007: Piaggio Reveals Multi-Brand Lineup

Piaggio & Co. SpA has revealed a number of new vehicles scheduled for formal introduction next week at the 65th International Milan Motorcycle Exhibition (EICMA).

Of course, Piaggio owns and operates multiple brands, including Piaggio, Vespa, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Derbi and Gilera.

Among the new bikes to be introduced:

Aprilia
SMV 750 Dorsoduro

Aprilia says the SMV 750 Dorsooduro incorporates the best features of supersport and supermotard machines, and was conceived and developed off of experience gained from the GP and supermotard circuits. The Dorsoduro is powered by a 750cc, 95hp, liquid-cooled engine with a second-generation ride-by-wire control system.

RX and SX 125
Designed to expand upon Aprilia's recent big-bore off-road offerings, the 125cc RX enduro and SX supermotard are powered by the brand's two-stroke single and outfitted with many of the components supplied with the RXV AND SXV models. The RX is fitted with classic 21" and 18" enduro wheels while the SX is fitted with 17" wheels featuring a 150/60 rear.

Moto Guzzi
Stelvio

Powered by a newly developed 1,200cc, eight-valve engine putting out over 100 horsepower, the maxi-enduro Moto Guzzi Stelvio represents the Italian brand's response to the big BMWs, KTM and Triumph.

We won't know much about the Stelvio until next week. What we do know is that it has shaft drive, has fittings for a complete set of panniers, has an adjustable windshield on an integrated nose fairing, a seat adjustable to three different positions, 50mm upside down fork with radial calipers and 19" and 17" spoked and black anodized wheels.

Piaggio
X7

Designed like a maxi scooter but powered by nimble and fuel-efficient 125cc and 250cc engines, the two-model X7 is Piaggio's latest offering in the medium size commuter market.

MP3 HyS
First introduced in July, the MP3 HyS is hitting the Milan Bike Show as a prototype — although the company plans to reveal a production model by the end of 2008.

Previously reported on in Dealernews, the MP3 HyS features a parallel hybrid drive system that integrates an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. Synergy between the two forms of drive is achieved by an integrated electronic control unit.

Derbi
Senda DRD Evo

Offering 17-inch alloy wheels, a six-speed gearbox, a Marzocchi 40mm upside down fork and a braking system with radial calipers and Galfer wave discs, the Senda DRD EVO is the latest step in the evolution of Derbi's legendary Senda 50, the best seller in the Derbi range, with over a million units sold since its launch in the early 90s.
