Resource: CPSC Guide for Small Businesses

Understandably, most dealers are confused about the recent legislation that created the ban on children’s vehicles. To help them understand the new law, the government has published a 16-page document titled “Guide to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) for Small Businesses, Resellers, Crafters and Charities.” Download it here, and check back for updated versions.

As the title indicates, the CPSIA affects many industries: basically all those producing products primarily intended for children 12 and under. So you’ll have to wade through stuff with no connection to your business, like rules relating to pacifiers and cribs.

Plus, the guide says nothing of one of the most important sections of the law, the one that makes mandatory on April 13 the ATV standards the major OEMs have been following for years. Learn more by clicking around on the CPSC website. Especially valuable is the Q&A section.

Dealernews is at work on a guide for dealers and will be posting it soon. It will borrow from the CPSC guide and website, as well as from other sources.
