For the past 17 years the Dealernews Top 100 Program Presented by the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association has been recognizing exceptional dealerships for creative store designs, marketing techniques, community involvement and outstanding customer service. Over those 17 years we've been blown away by the level of commitment each dealership puts into making their store the best it can be. Year after year, the standard of excellence and creativity is raised, the competition increases and the final Top 100 winners truly represent the best of the best in the powersports industry. Dealernews is privileged to honor these winners all year long for their commitment and enthusiasm to powersports business. Who can be a Top 100 Dealer?
Any powerports retailer with a brick-and-mortar operation can enter the Top 100 competition - franchised dealers, nonfranchised (parts and accessories only) stores, even service shops can become Top 100 Dealers. But you can't be considered for the Top 100 if you don't enter. I'm just a small shop. How can I compete against the big franchised dealerships?
Entries are not judged by sales volume; no one is too large or too small to compete. If you're proud of your customer service programs, the way you merchandise your small store, and your community involvement initiatives, for example, then tell your story! Oftentimes the smaller dealerships have the greatest connections with their customers, and the most innovative ideas for running their businesses. How can being a Top 100 Dealer benefit my business?
Promoting that your business has won a national award for retail excellence helps attract customers to your dealership. You can use the Top 100 logo and other promotional collateral provided to you (free!) by Dealernews helps you tell your world that you?re one of the best. Also, consider that this is a national award - an achievement that might come in handy if you ever have to present a business plan to renovate your building, for example. Top 100 dealers also receive the following benefits:
- Dealernews will issue a press release to national, regional and local media that lists the Top 100 award winners.
- Dealernews also will promote your store in a special editorial section contained in Powersports Magazine, the souvenir guide to the Cycle World International Motorcycle Shows presented by Toyota.
- Your dealership will receive special coverage in the 2008 Top 100 Yearbook, produced by Dealernews.
- If you're attending the 2008 Dealer Expo in Indianapolis, you'll have access to the Full Throttle Dealer VIP Lounge (including all amenities and concierge services) during Dealer Expo.
- Your dealership will be featured in the Top 100 Galleries at Dealer Expo, Big Twin Customs and other shows and conferences.
- Best of all, you'll receive complimentary invitations to the event of the year: The 2008 Top 100 Awards Gala, to be held February 15, 2008, in Indianapolis, Ind. You'll enjoy a free cocktail hour, full dinner and entertainment, the awards presentation, the chance to meet and mingle with industry VIPs (including legendary racers and Hall-of-Famers), and a special event we're keeping "under wraps" for now.
Who judges the Top 100 competition?
Entries are judged by a panel of experts from the powersports and the general retailing sectors. On average, each judge has about 15 to 20 years' experience in their respective fields. Their identities are kept confidential. Dealernews editors do not judge the Top 100 entries. How do I enter?
Follow the instructions on the entry form. Make sure to fill out ALL of the requested information on pages 1, 2 and 3. Incomplete entries will not be considered for judging. (TIP: You don't have to be Shakespeare! Just present the facts so that the judges can get a clear understanding of your business. Some of the best entries have been the simplest. And if you slightly exceed the word limit for one of the questions, don't worry about it - we're not counting!)
Place your completed entry form and your required photographs in a three-ring binder or similarly sized folder. Send everything to the address on the entry form. What about photos?
Photos are a required part of the entry. You need to submit at least EIGHT (8) and no more than FIFTEEN (15) color photos that will allow judges to "take a virtual tour" of your business.
Submit the photos on 8x10 GLOSSY PHOTO PAPER, along with your completed entry form. If you want to label or caption your photos, place them on a separate sheet of paper. Don't staple anything to the photographs. (TIP: If you're judged a Top 100 winner, your photos will be used in the Top 100 Galleries, in publications and on the Dealernews website. Don't submit fuzzy photos! Make sure your photographs are clear, bright and of the highest quality.)
