Alexander Smith, the 22-year-old son of motorcycle legend Malcolm Smith, plans to race the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb July 20.
Alexander and teammate Greg Tracy will be racing on a factory Ducati Hypermotard 1100S, sponsored by Malcolm Smith Motorsports, MSR Spider Grips and Faulkner Livingston Racing.
This will be Alexander's second year competing in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, one of the oldest races in the United Sates. He raced a Honda CRF 150R his rookie year.
Alexander is Malcolm?s youngest son. Malcolm, who raced the Pikes Peak Hillclimb in 1982 on a Husqvarna 430, owns and operates Malcolm Smith Motorsports in Riverside, Calif. Malcolm Smith Motorsports retails Can-Am, Husqvarna, KTM, Kymco, Sea-doo, Suzuki, Star and Yamaha.
This year will be the 86th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, The course is a challenge, with a dramatic change in elevation from 9,390 feet to 14,100 feet and change in terrain from pavement to gravel. This year's race has 11 classes and features a variety of automotive, semi truck, exhibition, open wheel, super stock car, pro truck and motorcycle classes with a field approaching 200 competitors. Race related events began July 15 with tech inspection. Race Day is July 20.
