Arctic Cat Recalls Snowmobiles Due to Fire Hazard

admin

In cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Arctic Cat is recalling three 2009 snowmobiles: the Z1 Turbo (shown), Z1 Turbo Sno Pro and TZ1 Turbo. Consumers should stop using the units unless otherwise instructed, the government says. About 3,000 units are affected.

According to the CPSC website, oil can leak into the engine compartment, posing a fire hazard. In addition, the fuel tank can come into contact with the engine, posing a possibility of wearing through and fuel leakage.

Arctic Cat has received 33 reports of oil leaks, including eight vehicle fires. There have been no reports of fuel leakage from the tank wearing against the engine. No injuries have been reported.

The units were sold by dealers nationwide from June 2008 through July 2009 for between $12,500 and $14,300.

The government is instructing owners to contact an Arctic Cat dealer for a free repair.
