DEALERNEWS NAMES TOP 100 RETAILERS FOR 2006

Dealernews

INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 18 - Dealernews, the premier business-to-business magazine for powersports retailers, announces the winners of the 15th Annual Top 100 Awards, the industry's largest, longest running and most prestigious retail competition. The Top 100 Awards recognize dealerships for retail design and merchandising approaches, promotional innovations and dedication to customer service.

Route 66 Harley-Davidson of Tulsa, Okla., won this year's Grand Prize trophy by scoring top marks in all judging categories. This was the first time in five years that a Harley-Davidson franchise has won the coveted Grand Prize.

Outdoor Motorsports, a multi-line motorcycle and ATV dealership in Spearfish, S.D., was named First Runner-Up in only its second year of competing. Erico Motorsports, Denver, Colo., and Shenandoah Harley-Davidson/Buell, Staunton, Va., tied for second place finishes. Honorable Mentions went to Hal's Harley-Davidson & Buell, New Berlin, Wis., and Honda of Houston, Houston, Texas.

"It's become apparent that powersports dealers have raised the bar in terms of how they present and merchandise products in their stores," says Dealernews publisher and competition director Mike Vaughan. "Over the past few years more dealers have remodeled and reorganized their stores. Many of them compare favorably within any of the nation's top general retail outlets. It's becoming increasingly difficult to assess just which dealers qualify for the title of North America's Top 100 as more of them adopt state-of-the-art merchandising and display practices."

Dealerships receiving special category awards for 2006 are:

  • Iron Pony Motorsports Superstore, Westerville, Ohio, as Best Independent
    (Non-Franchised) Dealer
  • Timm's Trikes Inc., St. Charles, Minn., as Best Dealer Under $2 Million in Revenue
  • Blue Ridge Harley-Davidson Inc., Hickory, N.C., for Best Exterior
  • Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson, Loveland, Colo., for Best Display
  • Freedom Cycles Inc., Grandview, Mo., for Best Customer Service Initiative
  • Foothills Motorsports, Piedmont, S.C., for Best Community Involvement Program
  • Southern California Motorcycles, Brea, Calif., for Best Use of Space
  • Harley-Davidson of Greenville, S.C., for Best Advertising Campaign
  • Outer Banks Harley-Davidson, Elizabeth City, N.C., for Best Use of Theme
