Applegate, Calif., resident Jeff Barbarick has opened Auburn Extreme Powersports, a dealership selling Polaris ATVs, UTVs and SSVs, Victory motorcycles, and various streetbikes, dirtbikes, PWC and snowmobiles. The new store also has a service department and sells a variety of PG&A.
You might remember Barbarick as the former owner of Auburn Powersports, which he operated from 1995 to its untimely demise in 2007 for failure to pay back taxes. “I had a crooked bookkeeper stealing all the tax money,” he recently explained to the Auburn Journal. “I got audited by the state Board of Equalization, which found out I was $120,000 short. I found out the bookkeeper was taking the tax money.
"I filed charges, and she went to jail and is serving time,” Barbarick said.
Barbarick has a new business partner this time, Auburn resident Jack Casper. “He actually was a customer of mine,” Barbarick says. “ … He’s also a big-time (off-road) enthusiast and has a son who’s an enthusiast.”
The partners say they plan to bring in a Kawasaki franchise at some point, along with Honda power equipment.
