Big Dog Motorcycles granted certifications to sell in Europe

Big Dog Motorcycles announced yesterday that four of its models have passed all required certification tests for distribution in the European Union. The company recently appointed Legend Motorcycle Group as its distributor for the continent.

“European distribution has been a goal of ours for several years,” Sheldon Coleman, founder and CEO of Big Dog Motorcycles, stated in a press release. “But we have been very selective as to the perfect partner to make this a reality. Legend Motorcycle Group has been the ideal ally in every phase of the process, They understand the European market, they provide exceptional customer service, and they share our passion for our products.”

The Belgium-based Legend will distribute four models: the chopper-styled K-9 (Big Dog’s best seller), the long-and-low Wolf, the Pitbull and the Coyote.

While completing the certification process, Legend has been signing dealers throughout the European Union. Seven dealerships — in Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Portugal and Luxemburg — are under contract and are receiving their initial Big Dog shipments. Many additional dealers are in the pipeline, the company says. Regular updates on European dealer openings are available at

Jos Dewit, CEO of Legend Motorcycle Group, stated, “We are completely dedicated to the success of Big Dog Motorcycles in Europe. Big Dog’s designs are exceptional, revealing the type of engineering demanded by the discerning European rider. These are not only beautiful show bikes, they are also engineered to ride in the real world on a daily basis.”

Big Dog Motorcycles started production in 1994 and claims to have built more than 25,000 motorcycles. Each motorcycle is designed, assembled and hand-painted at the company's 150,000 sq. ft. factory in Wichita, Kan. Big Dog has about 70 dealers in the United States, and also has new distribution in Canada and the Middle East.
