JANESVILLE, Wis. - Greg Blackwell, vice president of sales for LeMans Corp., is resigning Jan. 25, to take an executive position with a West Coast-based company in the bicycle industry, Dealernews has learned.
Blackwell confirmed today that he has been named president of the bicycle company but declined to provide further details, saying that company will make an announcement later this month.
“It’s the best of both worlds for me,” Blackwell said. “I get to work in an industry that I’m passionate about and I don’t have to compete with LeMans. It’s really a great opportunity for me to further my career, and it’s a chance to go back to the West Coast, where my roots are.”
Another benefit, he said, is that there are so many synergies between the two industries. “I’ll be able to work with some of my friends in this industry in my new position,” he added.
Blackwell, 55, said he’s been working with and for LeMans since 1984. He joined the company in his present position about 15 years ago.
No successor has been named at LeMans, he said.
Blackwell said he’s been a “hard core” bicycle rider for about 10 years, riding both on-road and off-road, but he’s not ridden competitively. “I’ve ridden passionately for pleasure and for health,” he noted.
