Two new BMW dealerships have opened, one in Virginia, the other in Florida.
BMW Motorcycles of Roanoke Valley is a 14,000 sq. ft. store in Salem, a Southwestern Virginia community situated in the Shenandoah Valley between the Alleghany and Blue Ridge Mountains on the Roanoke River.
“Owning a BMW motorcycle dealership has been a lifelong aspiration,” says owner Hugh Huff, whose fascination with motorcycles began at age 7 with a backseat ride on a ’57 BMW. Over the years, he competed in motocross and race track events and bought and sold more than 20 motorcycles while working for his family’s petroleum business.
Today, the Huff family owns and operates several gasoline and convenience stores in the area. The family’s new business is Virginia’s third BMW motorcycle dealership. The facility is equipped with all of the latest service technology and staffed by experienced master technicians, parts and sales people. Throughout the year, the dealership will sponsor track days at Virginia International Raceway, adventure rides and Sunday touring events.
BMW Motorcycles of Roanoke Valley is the culmination of a concerted effort to establish a BMW presence in southwest Virginia, says Lou Provato, dealer development manager for BMW Motorrad USA. “We couldn’t have picked better representatives for our brand. Hugh and his staff — which includes his son Chip — are not only passionate about motorcycling, but have deep roots in the area. Situated at the crossroads of some excellent riding terrain, BMW Motorcycles of Roanoke Valley will be a destination of choice as well as a valuable resource for motorcycle enthusiasts in their region.”

Jacksonville — Florida’s largest city and third-largest seaport — is now home to BMW Motorcycles of Jacksonville.
A grand opening event Saturday, March 3, will feature representatives from BMW Motorrad USA, giveaways a seminar by Jim Hyde of RawHyde Adventures. On Saturday, March 10, a demo truck from BMW Motorrad USA will be on-site offering demo rides, a selection of the latest BMW riding apparel and giveaways.
“With its proximity to I-295 and great visibility from the road, we are setting this up to be a destination point for all riders in the area,” says owner Don Passell. “Whether you are waiting for service, browsing our inventory of bikes, or just hanging out with a cup of coffee, we welcome everyone to our comfortable showroom and customer lounge.”
The 15,000 sq. ft. dealership is the culmination of a several-year effort to establish a BMW presence in northeast Florida, according to Provato. “Don and his entire staff are passionate about motorcycling and bring a tremendous amount of riding experience and knowledge to motorcycle enthusiasts in their region,” he says. “We are proud to have them represent the BMW brand.”
Passell brings a lifelong passion for adventure to what he now terms his “third career.” He spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy as a carrier-based fighter pilot before working as a commercial airline pilot. Upon his retirement from Delta Airlines, he started his first motorcycle dealership in 2007.
“I’ve been a BMW rider for a long time, so establishing a BMW dealership was a natural fit,” he says.
Off the motorcycle showroom floor, Passel spends free time in his hangar, building a Lancair he hopes to pilot in this year’s Reno Air Races. His need for speed — both on and off the ground — will resonate with local motorcyclists and military personnel alike.
