WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reports that BMW is recalling roughly 2,000 sportbikes to fix a problem with foamy brake fluid.
"In certain riding conditions, the brake fluid in the front brake fluid reservoir can foam," the recall states. "Brake fluid that foams could lead to a reduced braking capability of the front brake system, possibly resulting in a crash."
BMW dealers will need to retrofit the front brake fluid reservoir with a screen insert. BMW says 2,062 models are affected, and include K1200 S, K1200 R, and K1200 R Sport motorcycles for model years 2007 and 2008, according to the recall notice.
The recall is expected to begin in November. Owners are asked to contact the OEM at 800-525-7417 or at email@example.com.
