WASHINGTON, D.C. - BMW is recalling certain 2012-to-2013 S 1000 RR sportbikes due to a manufacturing fault. The side-stand attachment bolts could start to loosen, potentially causing the stand to fall off.
A separation of the side-stand in turn could cause the motorcycle to fall, creating a risk of injury.
The recall (No. 12V585000) potentially affects 2,385 units. BMW will notify owners, and dealers will clean the side-stand mounting plate threads and replace the side-stand mounting plate bolts, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in January.
