LONDON, U.K. – Powersports dealers in the United Kingdom have rated KTM, Triumph and Harley-Davidson as top motorcycle franchises, according to the autumn 2012 results from the Motorcycle Retailers' Association (MRA) Motorcycle Dealer Attitude Survey.
"Dealers who have good communication channels with their manufacturer tend to give higher ratings in the survey,” Sue Robinson, director of the Motorcycle Retailers Association, told Tyrepress. It is important to remember that motorcycle dealers have the same aims and aspirations as the motorcycle manufacturers. Both want to sell more motorcycles and improve profitably."
Dealers are feeling the pressure of the weak economy and tense dealer/manufacturer relationships begin to strain.
"With motorcycle dealers contending with flatlining sales and falling margins, it is no real surprise to see a slight decline in values in the Autumn survey,” Robinson said. "During 2012 sales of lower value 125cc motorcycles increased while sales of larger, more profitable motorcycles declined, therefore [floorplan] funding of these larger motorcycles is causing financial pressure for a lot of dealers.”
