BANDERA, Texas - Years of experience, competitive rates and personal attention are the big selling points at Brown's Cycle Service.

Owner Jamie Brown moved his motorcycle service shop there from Corpus Christi almost a year ago, after discovering Bandera on group rides. Lifelong rider Brown was first a machinist and an aircraft mechanic, but later joined the custom shop at an Austin Harley-Davidson dealer. He took the corporate certifications and worked for several dealerships over the years before striking out on his own.

"Corporate America burns you up," he told the Bandera County Courier. "You work hard and they make all the money."

Since moving he’s added a gear section that will double in space to accommodate sales.

Being versatile is a key to small business success, especially in a small town. "I knew I couldn't just do the Harleys here. And I needed to do the [hunting and ranching] four-wheelers, too. They keep me busy," he said.
"If you're determined, there's a way [to achieve your goals]."
