BRP recalls about 1,000 snowmobiles for explosion hazard

BRP is recalling about 1,000 Ski-Doo snowmobiles sold since 2004 because of an explosion hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says BRP has received three reports of explosions, one involving minor burns to face and hands.

Electrostatic charges that can cause sparks in the fuel tank when the engine is left idling are the cause of the recall. The snowmobiles being recalled were sold by Ski-Doo dealers nationwide from March 2004 through March 2010.

A list of model names is available on the commission website. Consumers are advised to stop using the snowmobiles immediately and contact a dealer for free repairs.

The snowmobiles were imported from Finland by BRP US Inc.
