Buell Motorcycle Company says it is shelving its off-road motorcycle development plans for the foreseeable future. Earlier this year, Buell announced plans to enter the closed-course, competition use off-road motorcycle market.
"Buell has made the business decision to focus resources on its street motorcycle business, including continued development of the XB line and the launch of the all new 1125R superbike platform," Buell president and COO Jon Flickinger says. "Buell customers and dealers have expressed incredible excitement for the new 1125R superbike and our entry into the mainstream sportbike market."
It was February when Buell announced its intent to bring an off-road motorcycle to market.
At the time, Erik Buell said he planned to bring a closed-course competition model to market within two years. "This will allow Buell dealers the time needed to make plans to meet the needs of this new market and customer," he said.
"Harley-Davidson and Buell are highly committed to broadening the range of products we offer and reaching out to new groups of customers," Flickinger said at the time. "We're always looking at new market opportunities, but this one is particularly exciting."
