Celebrity Cycles Go On the Block

International auction house Bonhams & Butterfields will offer for sale motorcycles formerly owned by screen legends Clark Gable and Steve McQueen among others at next month's auction at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

Gable's 1934 Harley-Davidson RL and McQueen's 1970 Kawasaki G31 — hand-painted by Von Dutch &mdahs; are expected to be highlights of the sale. Bonham's annual auction at the Petersen is known for combining the best of the motoring world with that of popular culture. This year?s event includes motorcycles, hot rods, automobilia and an extensive collection of original Von Dutch items.

"The history, art and people represented in this sale, from the kings of the silver screen to the king of counter culture (Von Dutch), to hot rods from the personal collection of the founder of the museum (Robert Petersen), is astounding," says Dick Messer, director of the Petersen Museum.

The autumn sale is also scheduled in conjunction with the famous charity fundraiser, the Love Ride, and California Bike Week, so there will also be a myriad of activities for attending motorcyclists.

The auction will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 10 at the museum on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles.
