GREENVILLE, Maine — The Moosehead Riders ATV Club is pushing the town of Greenville for ATV access, saying it will boost area tourism.

The club has proposed expanding ATV access to all town roads to connect with other trails traveling to the town in northern Piscataquis County.

Town ordinances permit ATV traffic only on one street. Two Moosehead Riders club members have urged town selectmen to expand ATV access to all town roads to increase access to trails leading out of town. The expansion would also enable other ATV enthusiasts to travel into the downtown area to shop, eat and stay at local motels.

“It is becoming just like snowmobiling,” Moosehead Riders club member Tom Pierce told the Bangor Daily News. “Other towns are capitalizing on the business brought in by ATVs. I’d like to see the town do the same.”

A public hearing is set for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14, and the selectmen are expected to vote on the proposal during their Nov. 21 board meeting.
