SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Cycle Shack Inc. has created a special area of its website for dealers wanting compliance information on its exhaust systems for sale in the State of California.
Serving the exhaust market in California has become a prickly situation as dealers and shop owners, under a microscope in recent years from the California Air Resource Board (CARB), have been reluctant to market, display and sell aftermarket systems for fear that regulations might still be misinterpreted, subjecting the parties, in some cases, to hefty fines.
Cycle Shack's Dealer's Guide to California Emissions explains the regulatory requirements for aftermarket exhausts sold in California. The page shows the specifications for replacement pipes, modified parts for which an Executive Order (EO) has been issued, and systems for closed course competition.
Cycle Shack President Buzz Dyer was at the Parts Unlimited/Drag Specialties National Vendor Presentation last weekend in Madison, Wis., in part to discuss the challenges in selling aftermarket exhausts in California. The company has applied for and now received six CARB Executive Orders covering systems for several Harley-Davidson models and years, he said.
Dyer said the company is now engraving each pipe sold for the California market so that it specifies emissions and/or noise compliance with state regulations (similar to photo, above).
