KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Many retailers run into financing problems with their OEM. But this incident goes a step further: A dealer has been arrested for allegedly selling vehicles to customers, but then failing to pay the vehicle manufacturer for the units sold.

Glen Allen Courtney Jr., 34, of Rogersville, faces one count of felony theft of more than $10,000 and may face additional charges following his arrest July 23 by Kingsport police.

Police learned of the situation after one owner's vehicle that had been at Extreme Power Sports for repairs was repossessed along with the rest of the dealer's stock. Detectives say a preliminary investigation identified about 10 additional incidents in which the manufacturer, XY Powersports, allegedly was not paid for vehicles sold by the dealership.

KPD Det. Martin Taylor told the Kingsport Times-News Courtney sold between nine and 11 more UTVs without paying the OEM, and addiional charges are likely.
