SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Advanstar announces that Jim Savas has been named vice president and general manager of Dealernews.

Savas is vice president and general manager of Advanstar's large automotive media group, which includes Motor Age, ABRN and Aftermarket Business World; multiple websites, including, the auto industry's largest business-to-business aftermarket portal; and nearly 40 training programs and manuals for vehicle industry professionals and trade buyers.

Savas's ability to build models that maximize returns on investment for clients led his automotive brands to double-digit gains in 2013. He said he plans to apply the same energy to Dealernews.

“Creating a program that capitalizes on the heritage and love for Dealernews is one of the things I’m really looking forward to in this new role,” Savas said. “I want to enable affordable programs for advertisers to take advantage of during the 2015 year-long 50th anniversary celebration of Dealernews.”

“Expanding Jim’s role to include the Dealernews media properties continues Advanstar’s principles of excellence to break down business silos and stimulate growth through best practices and strong leadership,” said Chris DeMoulin, executive vice president of customer development at Advanstar.

During his career, Savas spent 20 years at Petersen, running such publications as Hot Rod, 4-Wheel and OffRoad. He also ran National Speed Sport News, a weekly racing publication, and was involved in three 50th anniversary seasons at Hot Rod, Surfer Magazine and Skin Diver.

“Jim is laser-focused on achieving maximum results for clients,” said Mary Slepicka, content director for Advanstar’s Powersports Group, which includes Dealernews. “Dealernews’ growth potential, and its subsequent ability to serve the industry and the dealers in a bigger capacity, are limitless with Jim as its leader. I’ve known Jim for more than a decade, have admired what he’s accomplished and am thrilled to be working with him.”

Slepicka continues as content director of Dealernews. In October 2013 she was named content director for the entire Powersports Group which, in addition to Dealernews, includes the Dealernews International Powersports Dealer Expo and National Retail Conference, to be held Dec. 4-7 in Chicago, and the Progressive International Motorcycle Shows nationwide consumer tour. Slepicka will continue to report to Tracy Harris on Dealer Expo and IMS, but will now report to Savas as plans are made to expand the Dealernews media franchise.

Dealernews' national sales manager, Angela Gibbs, and sales representative, Tim Debth, also will report to Savas.
