LACONIA, N.H. – Visitors to Laconia Motorcycle Week this year will have plenty of opportunities to ride for charity, sponsored by dealers near and far.
Among the rides are the Peter Makris Memorial Run June 14 and the Mae West Pet Benefit run June 16, both sponsored by local retailers.
The ride and biker party that started as a memorial tribute to community leader Peter Makris in 2007 has turned into the kickoff event for Laconia Motorcycle Week and an important fundraiser for the Laconia Fire Department and the Easter Seals NH Veterans Count program.
This year new Peter Makris Memorial Run sponsor G. Smith Motorsports will lead a brigade of collector Bourget Custom motorcycles and the G. Smith private collection of high end V-8 custom choppers, brought to the Laconia Rally by the Louisiana firm. "When we heard about this event, we wanted to be a part of it!" said Glen Smith, of G. Smith Motorsports, "We like being in the heart of the action with real riders doing exciting things."
Laconia Harley-Davidson is also an event sponsor.
Registration, breakfast and lineup starts at the NAZ Bar & Grill, followed by departure at 11 a.m. Commemorative t-shirts with a new logo designed by Harley-Davidson artist David Uhl are included in the registration fees. After the ride, participants will enjoy a lakeside luncheon buffet, live music, raffles, "spirited" promotions and a silent auction. Pre-registration is recommended to ensure entrance to the buffets.
Apparel retailer Sick Boy Motorcycles is behind the pet run. "We named it the 'Mae West Run' in honor of Laconia Motorcycle Week president Charlie St. Clair's dearly departed cat, who had to be laid to rest during Motorcycle Week, 2013," said Sick Boy Founder Doug Asermely. "We love animals and travel from rally to rally with five of them; four of them are shelter pets. This is a cause close to our hearts and our paws."
Riders will meet at rally headquarters on Lakeside Ave at 10:30 a.m., with kickstands up at 11:30 and take a scenic Laconia ride, ending in downtown Laconia. Registration donations of $25 per rider and $20 per passenger gets participants limited edition Sick Boy commemorative t-shirts and a ticket for door prize including authentic autographed items from Guns 'N Roses, Quiet Riot, Chickenfoot, Ratt, Deep Purple and more. There will also be prizes from our event sponsors including: J&P Cycles, Twisted Tea, Northeast Motorcycle shows, The Lobster Pound, Wagner Motorsports and Sick Boy. All of the proceeds benefit the Lakes Region NH Humane Society.
