CUPERTINO, Calif. - Ducati North America is recalling 2,083 model year 2012 and 2013 1199 Panigale and Panigale S motorcycles because the left handlebar switch may not get power from its connection at the dashboard, preventing the horn, instrument panel display, high beam and right turn signals from functioning.

Because of the defect, the motorcycles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No.123, "Motorcycle Controls and Displays." The rider's inability to use the horn, right turn indicators and high beam could increase the risk of a crash, the OEM reported to NHTSA.

The recall covers 1,515 bikes minted in 2012 and another 568 made in 2013.

Dealers are asked to install an additional wiring harness, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 16. Ducati's number for the recall is RCL-14-001.
