Ducati is recalling about 900 model-year 2011-2012 Monster 1100 EVOs to replace the rear-wheel rim.
The motorcycles involved in NHTSA recall RCL-12-002 were manufactured between Jan. 17, 2011 and Jan. 24, 2012. The rear rims are marked with code DU6-RR.
The problem involves the spokes in the rear wheel rim, which can crack over time. "Cracks may lead to failure of the rear wheel rim, increasing the risk of a crash," NHTSA said.
This is the second recall in less than a month for the Monster 1100 EVO; certain 2012 models were recalled in mid-February to replace a faulty brake line.
Owners are being notified by Ducati. Dealers will be asked to replace the rear wheel rim free of charge.
