LAKE IN THE HILLS, Ill. – Flat Squirrel Scooters is dead. After five years in business, owners Bruce and Christy Erbeck said the economy no longer can sustain the store.

They posted a message on their Facebook page, that reads in part:

We recently had to close the doors to our little scooter shop. The economy has not been kind and due to several compounding circumstances, we just could not keep our doors open any longer.

”

Over its tenure, Flat Squirrel became known for sponsoring scooter outings and donating to local charities, including giving the Lake in the Hills Police Department a $7,000 motorcycle, according to Crystal Lake Patch.

The dealership sold scooters from Genuine, Lance, SYM, KYMCO and CF Moto. Dealers in nearby communities are reportedly available to perform warranty service.
