THE REPORTS ARE IN and the organizers of the 2009 EICMA show in Milan have released attendance numbers for and sundry stats about the event.

  • About 450,000 people packed the halls of the Fiera Milano
  • There was a nearly 30 percent increase of international trade and consumer visitors over 2008
  • The show occupied 592,015 sq. ft. (55,000 sq. meters)
  • There were 1,341 brands/vendors
  • The show was covered by 2,000 journalists from around the world

"We're particularly pleased with the increase in the number of the international visitors because it repays our hard work to make the show more globally attractive," said Constantino Ruggiero, director of EICMA and ANCMA.

"During the show we presented the joint venture to create EICMA China, to export the Milan show to Canton. The success of Green Planet [hybrid and green vehicles exhibit] has lead us to reposition Bike Asia that we launched two years ago to Singapore, transforming it into specialist show with a clear objective — become the number one show for every kind of green vehicle. That's the future but first of all we want to share this year's success with Fiera Milano and the Lombardy Region, who supported the EICMA show."

Now, organizers report, EICMA management and staff will be working on an ambitious but significant goal for 2010 — allow the motorbike industry to focus its exhibition needs on two main shows, EICMA China in the Spring and EICMA Italia in the fall. Bike Asia will focus on hybrid and electric vehicles.
