Investigators in Austin, Texas, are looking into what caused a fire that did at least $1 million damage at Woods Fun Center.
Austin Fire Battalion Chief Rob Berdahl said the March 31 fire consumed more than 100 brand new motorcycles, all still in their crates.
Employees saw smoke billowing over the building around 5 p.m. that evening and ran outside to see the building on fire.
"It's a real unfortunate situation because of an already tough economy. That's our inventory back there that has burnt down to the ground," sales manager Michael Sweetland told KVUE.
Even so, things could have been worse. Several above-ground fuel tanks behind the building were untouched in the blaze. Chemical components, especially magnesium, in the bikes were also a concern for firefighters.
Now the future is in doubt for many of the store’s employees.
“Everyone involved is going to take a hit financially because … if we don't have the inventory to sell, then we're going to be in a bind," Sweetland says.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
