Flyrite Choppers is winning accolades for its latest invention, custom spool hubs, and for its custom builds.
The shop moved from Austin to Taylor, Tex., four years ago and has continued to thrive.
Now the January issue of Cycle Source magazine has named part owner Jason Kidd its 2009 Builder of the Year, and the spool hubs are 2009 Best New General Product of the Year.
“It’s great, because they put (Kidd) up against other builders that we respect,” office manager Timothy Sorensen told the Taylor Daily Press. “We’ve sold to everybody throughout the years we’ve been here, and to have them vote and say you’re builder of the year, it’s nice.”
The move to Taylor gave the bike designers space for more tools and they started manufacturing custom bike and classic car parts. They now offer panhead covers, vintage performance parts, and a variety of custom bike parts to outfit their choppers, including their award-winning spool hubs.
The hubs, available in six styles — straight, inverted, rounded, ridged, ribbed and honey pot — are a new custom feature for the front wheel.
Flyrite has been honored before. Kidd won the Harvest Classic European and Vintage Motorcycle Rally for custom bike design and Flyrite won the Bike Builder’s Showdown in 2004.
