LAND O’ LAKES, Fla. - A longtime dealer from Michigan is close to finalizing a deal to open the first Indian dealership in Tampa Bay.

The dealer’s identity is still under wraps due to a confidentiality agreement with Polaris. But he told the Tampa Bay Business Journal he expects to be selling out of a 10,000-sq.-ft. store on SR 54 at U.S. 41 before the end of the year. Meanwhile, he plans to start selling the motorcycles at a temporary location in the next four to five months.

The dealer reportedly closed last week on a 6.8-acre tract, 2.3 acres of which is buildable, for $150,000.

The dealer formerly owned Harley-Davidson dealerships in Michigan, and told the Business Journal his exit soured him on The Motor Co. “It’s a little bit personal,” he said. “Every Indian I sell is potentially a Harley that doesn’t sell.”
