HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas - Nearly two months after the West Fertilizer Co. plant explosion, residents are still struggling to rebuild, so the folks at Fort Hood Harley-Davidson decided to help out.

Over the weekend the dealership partnered with H-E-B in Harker Heights, Meyer’s Sausage Co., and Coca-Cola to hold a battle of the bands to benefit West. They raised more than $1,900, which will be donated to victims of the explosion.

“Even though the explosion didn’t really affect us here, (we realized) we have neighbors 70 or 80 miles down the road that are hurting and need help,” Lowell Doublin, general manager of Fort Hood Harley-Davidson, told the Killeen Daily Herald. “I’m not one to sit back and wait for the government to do something.”
