La Crosse, Wis., will be the site of a major tribute to veterans this June, as locals and visitors gather for the third annual Freedom Fest.
The mega-event merges three smaller events: The Veterans Memorial Ride, Freedom Honor Flight and the Deke Slayton Airfest. Add in classic rock bands and the result is a sprawling June 19 party at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and the La Crosse Municipal Airport.
The event benefits a scholarship fund for veterans, which in three years has raised $190,000, according to the La Crosse Tribune.
Freedom Fest will include a Saturday night concert by REO Speedwagon and Three Dog Night, a motorcycle rally departing from the UW-L campus and ending at the airport, where the rest of the events are scheduled.
