ALTERNATIVE DRIVE technologies and innovative concepts are in the spotlight in the Innovation Center at INTERMOT.

The center provides interested trade visitors and motorcycle enthusiasts with information on new approaches being taken in two-wheeled mobility. Organizers say they hope the area showcases environmental-friendly issues and shows that new engine technologies do not necessarily result in lower performance.

On display are alternative-drive bikes that are already available on the market, as well as prototypes and pioneering products in the area of parts, accessories and clothing. Vehicle manufacturers taking part include Vectrix, E-Max and IO, who will be showing electric-drive vehicles. Also on display: a natural-gas-powered Suzuki and the MP3 hybrid from Piaggio.

There’s also an outdoor area for INTERMOT visitors to test the bikes from Vectrix, E-Max and IO. The units can also be “refueled” at a solar-powered electric filling station. “Higher fuel prices are helping to usher in a future for electric-powered vehicles,” says Frank Brehm, general manager of SOLON Mobility GmbH. “Our electric refilling station – powered 100 percent by the sun – is emissions-free and therefore completely environmentally friendly.”
