Harley-Davidson has named Ed Magee as the general manager of the company's vehicle operations in York, effective Dec. 16.
Magee, 43, succeeds VP and GM Fred Gates, who will retire next year.
Magee will oversee all current operations at York, including the recently approved restructuring initiatives designed to make York Vehicle Operations competitive and sustainable in the future, according to an H-D statement.
"Through his various assignments at Harley-Davidson, Ed has demonstrated he has the skills and ability to lead York and its transformation into a best-in-class operation," said Karl Eberle, SVP of Manufacturing. "I have no doubt that Ed, working closely with York's joint union and management restructuring team, will successfully evolve York into a lean, effective and efficient factory."
Magee joined Harley-Davidson in 2003 and has worked in York, Penn., York, Wis., and Kansas City Harley operations. Most recently he was GM of the company's Capitol Drive Powertrain Operations in Wauwatosa, Wis., and GM of Special Projects for The its global manufacturing operations.
Prior to Capitol Drive, he served as the process lead for manufacturing engineering at the Kansas City vehicle and powertrain operations facility, where he received his Six Sigma green and black belt certifications. He also served as the director of H-D’s service strategy and technical communications, where he developed after sales strategies for the quality, operational excellence, and technical services divisions.
Though he is active in the Milwaukee community, the avid motorcycle enthusiast will relocate to the York area.
