YORK, Pa. - Harley-Davidson has received the 2013 Pennsylvania Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence for consolidation, restructuring and remediation work at the Springettsbury Township motorcycle factory's west campus.

The company recently vacated the 58-acre tract, moving all operations to a newer and renovated Softail plant.

The award recognizes efforts that promote environmental stewardship and economic development. The project cited was “Harley-Davidson Promotes Redevelopment in York County.”

"Our ultimate goal was to leave the site in a better condition than it was when originally purchased," Sharon Fisher, environmental manager for Harley's York Vehicle Operations, told the York Daily Record.

The awards will be presented April 17 in Harrisburg at a ceremony hosted by Pennsylvania Environmental Council.
