ORWIGSBURG, Pa. – Proof that great customer service builds loyalty: Burd Guers, 69, was the first to buy a Harley-Davidson from Schaeffer's Harley-Davidson in 1967. He became the first customer at Schaeffer's Motorsports June 19 when he bought a KTM 250 XC-W after the dealer added the brand.

Dennis Schaeffer didn’t start out to open Schaeffer's Motorsports. He bought the former Heritage Ford building to house his 86-motorcycle collection, but the real opportunity was right outside the door.

"We are sort of dirt motorcycle-oriented, and we saw guys riding up and down on (Route 61) with trailers, so we thought we could fill this with bikes to sell," Schaffer told the Republican-Herald.

The store sells KTM motorcycles, a brand Schaffer said he used to ride, as well as used, non-Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The back of the store doubles as a motorcycle museum with rotating installations from the Schaeffer collection.
