MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Now that Harley-Davidson’s Project Rushmore Touring models have had enough time to soak into the marketplace (Are you used to seeing that new black fairing vent yet?), the Motor Co. has unveiled a range of accessory options specific to the updated models — those “informed by Project Rushmore” in Harley’s language.

New options include some obvious bits, like deeply chromed versions of the new Impeller-style 10-spoke wheels, for example. But perhaps more interesting are some of the more extensive and practical options, especially as the weather cools off.

Up first is the Sun Ray Heated Tour-Pak Backrest, retailing for $349.95. A direct replacement for the OE backrest pad on 2014 Harley-Davidson Touring models equipped with King Tour-Pak top case, the Sun Ray pad features an integrated heat element and thermostatic control. A three-way switch controls the flow of heat to the passenger’s lower back.

Additionally, the heating element is switched off with the ignition to avoid accidentally draining the battery. And, of course, this pad can be paired with a Sun Ray saddle for even more backside warmth.

And once the rider is comfy, they can turn up the volume with a huge audio boost, thanks to the Boom! Audio Saddlebag Speaker kit. This kit adds a pair of 5x7-inch waterproof speakers to the saddlebag lids of 2014 Harley-Davidson Project Rushmore Touring models.

The speakers feature high-strength woofer cones and suspended 25mm tweeters that are directionally optimized for improved rider acoustics. According to Harley-Davidson, this upgrade “increases the available sound pressure level (SPL) and maximum listening volume with lower distortion and improved clarity at highway speeds.” In other words, it aims to keep the same clarity found in the factory Boom! Box audio system, but cranks up the dial to eleven then rips the knob off.

Extensively tested to withstand the harshest riding conditions and backed by a two-year warranty, the speakers fit custom designed saddlebag lids and are covered by durable perforated-metal speaker grills. The kit includes left and right speakers, grills, rear wiring harness, and installation hardware, and retails for $399.95, while the new color-matched saddlebag lids will run another $309.95. Fitments cover the 2014 Touring line with the new Project Rushmore saddlebags, including the Street Glide and Street Glide Special, the Electra Glide Ultra Classic and Ultra Limited.
