Harry Watts Jr., owner of Andy’s Cycle Sales of Hazard in Hazard, Ky., reflects back on 2010.
“In 2010 I learned that if you have enough work for three people in a certain department you can get more accomplished with only two people than you could with four. I am applying this contribution-per-person metric in 2011.
“2010 was a good year for Andy’s Cycle Sales. We embraced Michael LeBoeuf’s statement that ‘a satisfied customer is the best business strategy of all.’ We followed up on every sale and repair order and invested our time and money back into our customers.
“The only thing I would have done differently in 2010 is to pay closer attention to the automotive industry. I have learned to use the auto industry as a crystal ball into the powersports industry. The auto industry has the same issues and problems we do. They have just been having them six months sooner.”
