'Hey, that's my bike!' Three arrested when cop IDs his own motorcycle on their trailer

Authorities in Burlington, N.C., have arrested three men suspected of stealing motorcycles – including one that belonged to one of the arresting officers – from a local body shop.

The men were arrested after a vehicle pulling motorcycles on a trailer was stopped for a reported traffic violation in Haw River, and one of the police officers recognized his motorcycle on the trailer.

The trailer rolled backward and hit a patrol officer’s car during the stop. Graham police officer R. Lovette recognized one of the motorcycles as his own when he arrived on scene, according to the Times News. Graham said he had left his motorcycle at Total Control Suspensions in northern Alamance County.

Arrested during the stop were 19-year-olds Cody Emmett Becker and Wallace Gene Reed III of Burlington. A third suspect — Billy A. Staley, 26, of Burlington — was identified and taken into custody later Tuesday morning.

The three men face numerous charges from multiple law enforcement agencies.
