Japan's Cycle Production Down 20% in January

Japan's four major motorcycle manufacturers produced 114,214 units in January 2008, down 20.2 percent from 143,087 units produced in January 2007, says the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

Honda produced 26,954 units, down from 39,491 units; Kawasaki produced 21,578 units, up from 19,848 units; Suzuki produced 36,472 units, down from 41,733 units; and Yamaha produced 29,207 units, down from 41,999 units.

The four manufacturers exported 106,746 units worldwide in January 2008, down from 113,880 units exported in January 2007.

Honda exported 14,361 units, down from 21,165 units; Kawasaki exported 20,903 units, up from 20,507 units; Suzuki shipped 42,038 units, down from 43,590 units; and Yamaha exported 29,444 units, up from 28,618 units.

Exports to the United States during January 2008 totaled 33,289 units, down 28.9 percent from 46,805 units exported to the U.S. in January 2007.
