MILLVILLE, N.J. – A July opening is on the horizon for the Field of Dreams at the New Jersey Motorsports Park, an off–road facility roughly five years in the making.
"What New Jersey really needs are places for off–road vehicles to ride. This will be the only facility in the state of New Jersey that will offer trail riding," Clayton Keeler, managing member of the New Jersey Motorsports Park, told WMGM.
Plans for the 85-acre park call for about five miles’ worth of trails for dirt bike and ATV riders, along with beginner, intermediate, and advanced motocross courses and a training area for new riders complete with vehicle rentals and lessons.
"South Jersey is known for a lot of riders and unfortunately there really isn't a place to ride legally. Unfortunately they do a lot of illegal riding, they find a lot of trails and pits and we're going to try to alleviate some of that," said Field of Dreams general manager Richard Schmidt.
The advanced course will have the capacity to host pro circuit races, potentially providing an economic boost for Millville and the surrounding area. Combined with the Motorsports Park across the street, managers say the Field of Dreams will be a destination for experienced and novice riders.
"We will get people from up and down the coast,” said Keeler. “And we're looking forward to servicing everybody and we really hope they enjoy what we're putting together in our program."
Park managers say the work is on schedule and they hope for a soft opening in July, a grand opening in late July or early August, and the first race at the park in late September.
