KEARNEY, Neb. - The federal Small Business Administration is naming Top 100 dealer Kearney Powersports the Small Business of the Year in Nebraska’s Third Congressional District.
Craig and Amy Stokebrand bought 25 percent ownership of the dealership in 2005. Three years later they worked with the Nebraska Business Development Center on a business plan and valuation to buy the company outright. After struggling through the recession, sales jumped 20 percent from 2010 to 2011, according to KearneyHub.com.
The SBA Nebraska district office recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs in the Small Business of the Year competition annually based on efforts to develop an outstanding, growing business; offering innovative products and services, increasing jobs and sales, overcoming adversity, and contributions to community projects.
Kearney Powersports supports a variety of community charities and fundraisers. Some of the support has gone to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The store is also a site for quarterly Red Cross blood drives.
The dealership has been named to the Dealernews Top 100 multiple times.
