Klim blazes into 2011 with new product, a bigger presence and revamped training

For 2011, Klim USA is expanding its dual-sport gear and adventure-touring side of things, in addition to launching a completely revamped dealer training program designed to delve into the nitty-gritty details of the brand’s highly technical gear.

Dealers will get a look at Klim USA’s expanded efforts at its booth in the Gear & Apparel Marketplace. It’s booth has been designed to help the company’s crew offer detailed explanations on what sets the brand apart. “From the specific materials and construction technologies [used] to the unique, interactive relationships between Klim gear and the rider, we can show dealers the difference in Klim gear,” says Jesse Ziegler, Klim’s communications coordinator. “Essentially, for this year’s Indy show dealers can expect to see the brand they’ve heard so much about.”

In addition to the gear-related highlights, technical demonstrations and fancy booth, Klim has Dakar Rally racer Jonah Street on hand for autograph sessions and will feature his Yamaha GYTR WR450 rally bike (possibly still dirty from Dakar) on display.

Two additions to the gear lineup include the Chinook pant and the Baja pant. Aimed at enduro and off-road riders, the Chinook pant is designed to adapt to any conditions on long and short rides. The pant features moisture-wicking and heavy-duty fabrics and has a large 18-inch zippered fence for controlled airflow. The Baja pant is a fully ventilated garment that aims to protect riders while offering a high level of comfort. High-wear areas feature ballistic nylon, and leather panels in all the right spots help protect against hot exhaust pipes. We cornered Ziegler with a few questions about Klim’s 2011 efforts:

Show Daily: What are some of the product highlights for Dealer Expo 2011?

Jesse Ziegler: Klim is excited to bring the entire 2010-2011 Motorcycle Gear lineup to Dealer Expo, as well as our never-seen-in-public 2011-2012 Snow lineup. On the motorcycle side, we have the new, updated Adventure Rally Jacket and Pant on hand, and we should have Jonah Street’s Dakar Rally gear (still dirty) and Jonah himself (probably clean) in the booth. For many, this will be their first full taste of the Klim brand, and all of our gear will be new to them. They’ve heard about our products; now they can come in and see the most unique brand in the industry.

SD: How will Klim be promoting its massive online education program?

JZ: For the 2011-2012 season we’ll be revamping our training programs for the Motorcycle and Snow sides yet again and will have them integrated tightly with a new B-to-B website dealer portal. Each year training gets better because the dealer feedback builds the program. We listen to what questions they’re getting, add in our customer service department feedback and give the entire program an immense overhaul every year. We give it grassroots promotion through sales incentives. Dealerships register their employees, those employees complete the training, and then we incentivize certain product category leaders with cash value in Klim gear. After all, almost every dealership that sells Klim has employees that ride in Klim. This is a way for them to earn free gear and, again, provide us valuable feedback.

SD: Why is it important for dealers to educate themselves on Klim’s products?

JZ: Through our years developing relationships with our dealers, we’ve learned that efficient product education at the dealer level is key to everyone’s success. This started in the snowmobile market. In that arena, there is a huge benefit to having gear that will keep you dry and comfortable — it can save your life and often is asked to do so. As such, Klim is a brand that encompasses more technology than most consumers can imagine. Our research and development team is a squad of material, construction and design warriors. They know their stuff better than anyone. When we take their product knowledge and the science behind the human body and combine this information with the various materials from our partners that we use (like Gore-Tex, Windstopper, YKK, Cordura 3M Thinsulate, 3M Scotchlite, Coolmax, d3o armor, Poron XRD armor, Pittards leather and more), training turns into a tool a dealer can’t live without. When we train dealers on the undeniable benefits of Klim technology, the success stories are incredible for the customers and the dealer — everybody wins.
