KTM North America has announced updates to select streetbikes for 2012, including a highly revised 350 EXC-F, 500 EXC, 690 Enduro R and 990 Adventure. Except where noted, KTM hasn’t yet determined suggested retail pricing.
The 1190 RC8 R returns with no technical changes for 2012. The 1190 RC8 R Race Spec, however, receives new suspension settings and a longer secondary drive. The front sprocket goes from 16 teeth to 17 teeth and continues to hold a 520 racing chain.

The 990 SM T ABS gets a new preload adjuster for the rear spring, operated by a tool.
Based on last year’s 990 Adventure Dakar, the 2012 990 Adventure ABS is now powered by KTM’s 999cc 75-degree V-twin with electric fuel injection. KTM claims maximum power of 115 hp.
Other model highlights, according to the company:
- Factory racing orange powder-coated frame
- New orange powder-coated engine guards
- New-design wrap-around hand guards
- A modified center stand for easier lifting
- New colors and graphics.
The 990 Adventure R returns to the 2012 lineup with no technical updates.
KTM lists the following updates for the 2012 690 Enduro R:
- A full 690cc due to a longer stroke
- Increased power, now 67 hp with 49 ft.-lbs. of torque
- A longer service interval of 10,000 kilometers
- New spring rates and suspension settings with a new suspension travel of 250 mm
- Lower seat height, down 20 mm to 910 mm
- New look for the tank spoiler, front mask and fender
- New seat with more comfort
- Improved headlight
The 500 EXC will have an MSRP of $9,899. KTM lists all the following as new:
- A 510.4cc SOHC EFI engine that’s 5.5 lbs. lighter
- A multi-function balancer shaft
- A lighter piston and PANKL con rod
- A single diaphragm spring clutch
- An electric start system (plus kickstart) and a stronger stator (196 watts)
- Frame and swingarm with a new PDS shock
- Black “Giant” brand rims and spokes
- Airbox, intake boot, silencer and spark arrestor
- Bodywork with a new translucent fuel tank
- A more durable taillight/license plate holder
The 350 EXC-F will have an MSRP of $9,699. KTM lists all the following as new:
- A 349.7cc DOHC EFI engine
- Cams, valve springs, piston, crank, balancer shaft
- Single diaphragm spring clutch
- Electric start system (plus kickstart) and a stronger stator (196 watts)
- Frame and swingarm with a new PDS shock
- Black “Giant” brand rims and spokes
- Airbox, intake boot, silencer and spark arrestor
- Bodywork with a new translucent fuel tank
- A more durable taillight/license plate holder
