The U.S. Department of Labor has developed an online utility that helps small businesses determine more easily and quickly which of the agency's record-keeping, reporting and notice requirements apply to them. The new FirstStep Employment Law Overview Advisor is a free, web-based tool that takes businesses through a series of questions and then determines which federal employment regulations apply to each user.
The program then provides information about these regulations from the department's Employment Law Guide. The "e-Advisor" then summarizes the paperwork requirements for each law.
Users also may download and print Labor Department posters (for free!), plus get information on where the posters must be displayed within the workplace and what size and language requirements apply. Visit www.dol.gov/elaws/firststep for more info.
