Riverside, Calif.-based Malcolm Smith Motorsports on Thursday hosted a press conference for the upcoming Glen Helen U.S. Grand Prix, round three of the FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship.
During the event, Glen Helen Raceway owner Bud Feldkamp announced that the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas was offering a special $100,000 prize to any U.S. racer that wins the MX1 main event at Glen Helen. As the crowd of fans and press began to applaud, Feldkamp exclaimed, “It’ll make for a very interesting race: America versus the world!”
In addition to the barrage of questions and pictures for the racers from the assembled press corps, Malcolm Smith Motorsports, the 2009 Dealernews Top 100 Dealer of the Year, used the event as an opportunity to hold a fan-appreciation event for its customers, complete with food, music and autograph sessions.
Malcolm Smith brings a long history of racing to the dealership environment, making an event like this a natural fit for his dealership. According to dealer principal Joyce Smith, “When we built this dealership, we wanted it to be more than a place to buy things. We wanted it to be a center for motorsports.
"We’ve worked really hard with our movie nights and our other activities to bring people together as a group of enthusiasts for the sport. This year it’s twice as big as it was last year. It’s very exciting for us and fits perfectly in to what we originally intended the dealership to be,” she said.
