Firefighters had to rescue a construction worker who fell 20 feet through a hole at the construction site for City Limits Harley-Davidson, a new store under construction in Palatine, Ill.
The Palatine technical rescue team was called in to pull the man out of the basement, Palatine Fire Department Batallion Chief William Gabrenya told the Daily Herald.
The man landed on concrete 20 feet below, but the basement did not have stairs leading out, Gabrenya said. The man regained consciousness by the time rescue crews arrived and was lifted through a 6-by-6 foot hole in the first floor by basket. He was transported to Northwest Community Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
Gabrenya did not know how the man fell through the hole, but described it as a big pit with very tall ceilings.
