Manheim has canceled its live motorcycle auction which would have been held the afternoons of Feb. 14 and 15 at the Dealer Expo in Indianapolis. The company is opting instead to hold an Internet-based auction at its booth.
"We were really looking forward to the opportunity to work with the team at Advanstar on a live auction, but as we explored what it would take to host a sale in the convention center, and the logistical and technical aspects of it, we kept coming across challenges we couldn't get around," says Karen Braddy of Manheim.
"Additionally, economic conditions are drastically different for everyone than when we first considered the sale," she adds. Manheim had been working with Dealer Expo show management on a potential live auction since last summer.
The company instead plans to host an "OVE Online Event Sale" starting at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Thursday, Feb. 12, and running until 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
"We have expanded our booth size for the Dealer Expo, adding additional computer stations to facilitate being able to display the auction as it happens," Braddy says. "We'll have banners advertising the online auction, and will display an ATV and Motorcycle from Indianapolis that are actually in the online sale."
Manheim will be offering shuttles (before and after show hours) to its Indianapolis facility for dealers wishing to preview in person the models being auctioned online. Braddy says that nearly 25 percent of auction sales are now handled online.
