The Mason City Council has unanimously approved a development agreement with Harley-Davidson Inc. of Mason City that will keep the dealership at its present site in town, rather than moving it out of the city to be closer to an interstate highway.

The Motor Co. had been pressing the owners to move their Mason City, Iowa, dealership to a higher-profile site, but the deal with the city and its economic development corporation was too good to resist.

In the deal, the city will give the dealer a $100,000 loan forgivable over 10 years, in exchange for the dealership keeping at least 20 full-time employees over that time and adding at least six new employees by Nov. 1, 2013, according to the Globe Gazette. The dealership will also implement a three-phase renovation that will increase its assessed value by about $1 million.
