CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – McGrath Powersports will achieve some prime exposure now that its parent group has snagged naming rights for a new city amphitheater beside the Cedar River.
The riverfront venue will open as the McGrath Amphitheater-Cedar Rapids. The dealer group, which also includes automotive locations, is paying $75,000 annually for the naming rights for five years. The deal includes an option for a three-year extension at $79,590 a year, which would pay the city a total of $613,777 over eight years.
Owner Pat McGrath with brother Bruce and nephew Mike of McGrath Automotive Group, announced the five-year contract with Mayor Ron Corbett.
“This is a perfect time and a perfect venue, and we’re excited to partner with the city …,” McGrath said during the event. “… We hope the five-year contract goes much farther than that. … For our family to get involved is a perfect fit.”
McGrath businesses in and around Cedar Rapids are McGrath Chevyland, McGrath Dodge Country, McGrath Buick GMC Cadillac, McGrath Kia, McGrath Powersports and two used car Superstores.
The still-under-construction theater will have a soft opening with a local concert Aug. 30, and its first major concert next May.
