More Husqvarna models get Red Head design for 2013

HUSQVARNA has announced that 11 revamped 2013 models are on their way to the North American market.

Husqvarna’s Red Head DOHC design, which made its debut on the 2012 TC250, is central to the 2013 lineup. All 250/310 engine platforms now come with the Red Head design, including a new F1-inspired lightweight piston, new cylinder and Keihin EFI.

The finger-follower valve train of the Red Head replaces the previous shim-and-bucket design. Husqvarna claims that new cams allow longer valve lift while larger-diameter valves get air and fuel moving quicker (titanium valves on TC models). The Red Head design, revisions to the velocity stack, and a new exhaust have led to significant power improvement across the board on the cross-country TXC250R, TXC310R and TE310R (the dual-sport shown above). “R” added to the model name indicates the Red Head.

Husqvarna also made both TXC models (250/310) more aggressive with a new ECU map and revised suspension settings. Kayaba 48mm closed-cartridge fork is upgraded to U.S.-developed specifications.

TE Dual-Sport models receive additional all-over upgrades, such as the revised, more compact handlebar switches with waterproof connectors. The fuel system catch canister is redesigned and repositioned to be less obtrusive. Stock tires are upgraded to performance off-road DOT-approved units.

The TC449 returns for the 2013 model year, sporting shared changes to the Husqvarna lineup, including new all-black Domino grips, new bar pad and updated IPD (in-mold plastic design) graphics.

WR and CR two-strokes also return with the 2013 shared changes. The CR125 (shown, right) and WR125 two-strokes will once again come with a free 144cc top-end including cylinder and piston, which Husqvarna promotes as a “269cc for the price of a 125.”
